D23 Expo 2017 - score!

I attended the Disney fanatic's dream event this weekend, D23, at the Anaheim Convention Center. You'd think since they'd been doing this eight years now, (and they've been dealing with crowds for 60 years) they'd have the whole line thing down pat. If so, you'd be wrong.

The line to get in went for blocks down Katella avenue, down around in an L-shape for more blocks and blocks. The show was supposed to open at 9 a.m., but we roasted in the hot sun until 10 Saturday morning before the line started moving.

A couple of die-hard fans in front of us in line who'd been there the day before said it was an even bigger cluster then as organizers failed utterly to control the lines, which resulted in a bunch of late-comers rushing the gate and getting in before people who'd waited for hours. Get it together Convention Center/Disney!

Anyway, it took until 10:30 to get into the blessedly cool Convention Center, and then we were faced with MORE lines. I love Disney, but there was a measure of absurdity to the notion of standing in line for up to two hours to get into a gift shop. Plenty of people were willing to do it of course, but not me.

What made it worth while for me was the Pirates of the Caribbean exhibit, which had an enormous amount of cool memorabilia in it:

And these incredibly beautiful posters I bought by Disney art director Joe Dunn:

All in all, it was a good experience, but next time I'll be better prepared for the madness that goes along with it.
