I'm a big fan of bad puns and silly in-jokes, and clearly, the folks at KingsIsle are too. I just got to Avalon, the Medieval Britain-style world in Wizard 101, and it's coming through with the funny references kids will never catch.
First great example - Sumner Fieldgold, named for one of my favorite musicians of all time, Gordon "Sting" Sumner and referencing his amazing Summoner's Tale album. Not only does Fieldgold refer to a fantastic song called Fields of Gold, one of the subsequent missions is called "Fields of Barley."
You'll remember me when the west wind moves Upon the fields of barley You'll forget the sun in his jealous sky As we walk in fields of gold
Yet another reference to one of my all-time favorite Brits, filmmaker, Terry Gilliam. The man is a creative genius, and at the top of my "if you could have dinner with anyone" list.
Finally, we come to the raccoon version of legendary guitarist and sometime devil worshiper, Jimmy Page. I can't wait to see what other fun UK in-jokes Avalon has in store for us 70s kids!
